He
was 80 years old and still mowing his own yard.
this was his one achievement. Something he could point to
to justify his existence. He was proud of this fact and
liked to tell people about it, although few thought it
worthy of note. Most just smiled and nodded,
hoping he would change the subject or
just go away.
Eventually he did
and when people gathered for his funeral
and they were standing around talking
they glibly remarked to each other
you know,
he was 80 years old
and still mowed his own yard.
