The
pine tree
over the back fence
floats in the wind
its top branches splayed
out in a Y
it grew
not in the typical pine tree way
no pyramid of branches
instead it split at the top
as if asking the sky
which way is up
if it does not know
which way to go
it grows not up
but sideways
still it waves happily
such a funny tree
an oddity
among its peers
it wants to be
a pine tree
to fit in
yet by nature
it cannot
like a poet
it remains
a bit of
a non-conformist.
