With
age
comes disdain
for the new, the latest
those shiny new gadgets
that will supposedly make
life better
more complete
every new gizmo
has more directions, instructions
complications
stuff that has to be re-learned
programmed
installed
can we just have a knob
a handle
leave us alone
we are content with
the things we know
we appreciate the tried and true
the hand-held can opener
the old fashioned coffee pot
the friendly frying pan
a life without remotes or plugins
is appreciated
new things do not impress
like an old shoe
we are comfortable
our soles worn but happy
we don't need new shoes
we like the feel of what we know
and the fit of who we are.
