I
like old things
old barns and old tractors
old things left out in the wind to weather
old deserted homesteads
hidden behind brush and weeds
deserted cemeteries
behind them curlicue iron fences
old grown-over dirt roads
old fence posts with rusty wire
all things old
I feel akin to
there is an ease in the fit of
worn boots or faded jeans
the shape of an old saggy chair
the old coffee pot
stained brown from years of use
I have much in common
with all these things
being old as hell my own self
older than dirt
old as them Caliche rocks
up in the foothills
still there is value to what is old
along with some pride
remember the old sayin'
things get better with age
we get used to what is familiar
don't want or need what is
the latest newfangled gadget
none of that there holds much appeal
time takes care of all that
heck
time has weathered me
like an old ramshackle farm house
I'm just waiting
for the roof to cave in. |
