Paper
accumulates
out of nowhere
in piles and stacks
that start out small
but grow like beanstalks
here a pile
there a pile
soon there are piles everywhere
we become surrounded by paper
We can't seem to get rid of it
as soon as we clean up one pile
another begins to grow
right where the old pile was
in 24 hrs a paper seed sprouts
and it's back again
growing like a weed
we can remove a pile
but it does no good
there will soon be
two piles
while a 3rd pile germinates
in the darkness
our desks, our counters
our tables, our TV trays
our cars, our houses
filled with avalanches of paper
wherever it can light it does
and then beware
it will grow
and leave a paper trail behind it
popping up overnight
like mushrooms
paper feeds on itself
and spreads in relentless fashion
each mail drop bringing more
each email printing more
each piece multiplying in unwanted memos,
notes, lists, bills, forms, ads, surveys
you name it
it all accumulates and grows like fungus
until finally one day
we will be forced to surrender
succumbing to the lethal piles of paper
buried under our own paper weight
paper or plastic?
who said we were a paperless society?
