Leaves
come down
like rain
in the October woods
brightly colored specks
of gold and orange and yellow
fall like sparkling raindrops
The first touch of cold
has shaken the
limbs
moved them just enough to start
the release of leaves
and so
the rain begins
all coming down
like colorful confetti
coating the
trails and pathways
in fanciful mosaics
Leaves tumble and twirl
coming down from great heights
you can see them falling
feel them on your
face
smell them in the air
they signal a new season
a changing mood
a certain quietness comes
covering like a soft blanket
the slow slow
sleep begins
The gentle rain that began
with just one leaf falling
will not end
until every leaf is gone
every tree is bare
and the ground
is soaked
with leaves.
