Out
here in west texas
the pump jacks run
24/7
they remind me of chickens
with their head in the sand
peckin away at the dirt
trying to find bugs or in this case
oil
up and down they go
dotted all over the dam land
that used to be cactus & mesquite
the ranchers don't ranch anymore
they just collect their royalty checks
we used to could
see forever out here
step on a tuna can
and see another hunnerd miles
after that
now all we see is
pump jacks
oil rigs to the horizon
at night they light up
like the I-fell tower
sombodys gettin rich
but it ain't us ole cowboys
we never had any money
in the first place
and what we did have
the card table took
all we got out here in west texas
is our memories
and Roy Orbison from Wink
put them two togethr though
and ya got yourself somthin
special
kinda brings on a smile
don't it?
