Shells

Shells are hard
and crusty domes
we use to hide
the hurt that comes

All our secrets
and our sins
are held in shells
we hide within

With loneliness
like lowly snails
we drag along
our weighted shells

And when we want
to quickly hide
we tuck our heads
and pride inside

Only we
can know or tell
what goes on
inside our shell

Yet we only grow
when we decide
to leave our shell
and look outside.
