Taking
care of those who can't
caretakers are employed,
their time well-spent in kind pursuit
of bringing hope and joy
Where most would quickly shy away
their kindness all the while
keeps life's candle flickering
in the window of a smile
Patients have so little hope
they fall into despair,
they need the love of caring souls
to clear the gloomy air
Bedpans and messy sheets are foul
but someone must provide
assistance to those elderly
who in shuttered worlds reside
A gentle touch, a kindly word
a helping hand that's lent,
improves the attitudes of those
whose better days are spent
In gloomy halls, in narrow walls
where pain is all they share,
how wonderful are those who serve
whose job is taking care.
