WATCHING GRASS GROW

by David Knape
I like to sit on the porch
and watch the grass grow
sit and watch the plants I planted
getting taller and robust

there is no talent to
this sitting and watching
it takes no special skill
observation is the key
a restful kind of seeing

all of these I planted
now reward me with
their growth

like my children
I have watched them grow
and seeing so gives pleasure

sitting and watching
is a simple comfort
that takes only a little time

time taken
is a seed that grows
then blooms into
a poem.
