History in a Pecan Shell

D. F. Couch, is the town’s namesake. He won the honor by luring Oklahoman settlers here in the early 1890s. The community was also known as "The Oklahoma Settlement” for many years.

Andrew J. Harryman platted a town on 18 acres of his land here.

The town had a store, hotel, public school and church by the mid 1890s and a post office opened in 1896. The highway between Goliad and Kenedy was rerouted some two miles S of the town and Couch’s post office was merged with the one in Runge in 1909.
