History in a Pecan Shell

The town was named after the La Blanca Ranch, which dates back to Spanish rule. The site became a town with the arrival of the railroad in 1908. By 1927 La Blanca was a stop on the Texas and New Orleans Railroad with its own post office.

In the late 20s, La Blanca's population was a mere 200 people and it had only increased to 150 by the 1940s. As late as 1990, La Blanca was described as a "dispersed rural community" with only 150 people - but it has since swollen to the present 2,488
.
