History in
a Pecan Shell
There is another
La Gloria nearby (by South Texas standards) Jim
Wells County, just outside of Falfurrias,
but it is listed as a "dispersed community".
Although the Handbook of Texas listed 3 stores, two gas stations
and an oil refinery in La Gloria in 1991, a visit in 2001 showed that
the town doesn't look quite that prosperous.
At least one store and gas station has closed, and a water drilling
company is operating on both sides of the highway where 755 turns
off to 1017.
The post office was moved to La Gloria from Santa Elena in 1916, which
is about the only history we have on the town. |
