History in
a Pecan Shell
Originally
part of the Wangeman Ranch, Orangedale came into being around
1906 when the land was sub-divided into small farms. The word went
out that citrus and other fruits could be grown with ease and the
freshly-minted name of the community advertised the fact.
Improvements to Orangedale were modest – and commercially didn’t extend
beyond a store and gas station. At its peak Orangedale had two schools,
but state mandated consolidation erased those.
