Profile
of an Actor:
Maurice Barrymore
|
Marshall
was indirectly responsible for launching the Barrymore Dynasty. Maurice
Barrymore was a relatively unknown actor when he passed through
Marshall with an acting troupe. At a tavern near the railroad station,
Barrymore was dining with a male friend and the friend's female companion,
when a bartender insulted the woman. In the fracas that followed,
the friend was killed and Barrymore wounded.
His appearance at the trial brought him national attention from Harper's
and Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper. Perhaps more than he would have
gotten as an actor. He was the father of John, Lionel and Ethel Barrymore.
