Construction of the Railroad Lift Bridge, Beaumont

"This railroad bridge was built CA 1935. The building is the Jefferson County courthouse built in 1932. The bridge is the KCS / MP lift bridge which is still in use. There was once a SouPac lift bridge too but it has now been removed and SouPac (now UP) trains pass over the KCS bridge too. The Beaumont Harbor once had a Goat Island, but about 1955 the Neches River (where the trees to the left of photo are) was filled in with dirt and riprap and what was once Goat Island is now covered with docks and warehouses." - W.T. Block, Nederland, Texas
