History in a Pecan Shell

In the mid 1840s a transplanted Missouri farmer named Williams Warden came to Texas and was awarded a 640 acre Peter’s Colony land grant.

It wasn’t until the mid 1890s that the community came together with a church, school, store. Commercial enterprises included a grain elevator and two cotton gins. By the middle of that decade the community had added a hotel and more importantly, a post office.

In 1901 the mail was routed through Farmersville and the Climax post office was closed.

The 2000 census counted 40 people – the same number that has been given for the previous 60 years.
