History on
a Pinhead
A former colony
of Swedish Americans from the midwest and northeast, the town was
settled around 1909 and named after a geographic rise that soars 30
feet over the marshes. These immigrants were disheartened in 1915
when a hurricane destroyed their citrus and fig trees. Former Big
Hillers moved into Winnie and Hamshire.
