History
in a Pecan Shell
Inez was originally named after the Arenosa Creek, but the
name Arenosa only lasted until 1882, the year the New York, Texas
and Mexican Railway connected its line from Rosenburg to Victoria
(1882).
Inez was named after the daughter of railroad financier Count Joseph
Telefener. They named Edna after another
daughter, and then nearby Telefener, Texas after the Count himself.
By 1900 the town was prospering with school, bank, hotel and the railroad
to connect it with the rest of the world. Inez was hit in 1962 by
hurricane Carla, and that perhaps explains the small number of commercial
buildings.

Subject: Lost
Buildings Inez, Texas
My father lived in the home pictured in the story "Lost
Buildings of the Macaroni Railroad", when he was very young. I
think his father worked for the railroad for some time. My father
still lives in Inez and would love to have a picture of the home because
someone has torn it down. Please help if you are able to. Thank you.
