History in
a Pecan Shell
Information on
Simpsonville is less than abundant. We were unable to find an origin
for the town's name. It did start life about the year 1910 on the
Buckeye and Collegeport Railroad.
The town got a post office the same year, although it closed in 1917.
The population at the time was only 10 people and Palacios
acquired the mail route through Simpsonville.
By the 30s, the county had moved the road, the railroad
didn't exist and the cotton gin was a thing of the past. What few
students were produced by a population of 40 were absorbed by the
Palacios ISD. |
It's possible
that this structure was the former cotton gin of 1928.
