History in
a Pecan Shell
Bounded on the S by Holcombe
Boulvevard and surrounded on the N, W and E by West University Place,
Southside Place is an independent municipality incorporated in 1934.
A post office opened sometime prior to 1940 and the population for
that year’s census was about 1,400. The largely residential community
declined in the late 1970s to a low of 1,263.
Southside Place has a few businesses, its own fire and police department
and as recently as 2001, it maintained its own water system. The town
has since removed the water tower shown above. |
