History in
a Pecan Shell
A crossroads
town, Type was built by Swedish immigrants around the turn of the
century. The town’s first school was built about a mile south of
town and a post office operated briefly (from 1902 to 1904). A Swedish
Evangelical Church was organized here in 1908.
Population
figures aren’t available for the early years but the 1940 census
showed only 20 residents and a single business (a store / filling
station).
Type and Coupland schools consolidated
after WWII
and the figure of 40 residents has been in use from the late 1940s
until 2000.

The store and service station that was there in 1940 was my Great
Uncle's place. William (Will) Schiller. The picture you have of the
red house was his house. He and his wife lived there up until
they both passed in the early 1970's. Next to the store was a cotton
gin destroyed by a tornado in the 1970's
Thank you for your time and service to the State of Texas by having
this site up. - Glenn Schiller, Coupland,
