History in a Pecan Shell

When McCulloch County was organized in 1876, the site was part of Waldrip's Ranch. A post office was granted under the name Waldrip in 1879 but by the 1930s it had closed.

In 1884 Waldrip had a population of only thirty, but it did have a church and school. In the 1890s an influx of cotton farmers helped bolster the economy. Waldrip had several cotton gins built near it at one point, but fires and relocation ruined this chance at prosperity and longevity. From a population of 264 in 1925, the town declined to a mere 150 by 1941. The last year for population figures was 1961 when forty people admitted to living in the area.
