History on
a Pinhead
Elbert
began as a ranching supply community in the late years of the 19th
century. Without a railroad, the town never grew to any degree. A
post office opened in 1904.
The 1915 population was given as a mere 30 residents, although by
1940 it had reached 150. That number was in use for the next 50 years.
After 1990 it declined to just 56 people – the figure given for the
2000 census.
