History in
a Pecan Shell
The name of the
community comes from Finney Springs. Although not exact date
is available, its thought to be the early 1900s. The community was
able to organize a school in 1912.
Finney sat there for years, weathering the Great Depression and WWII
with no disasters to note. The next incident of note came in the mid
1950s when the school merged with those in Guthrie.
100 people made up the population in the 1960s, but had declined to
a mere 70 by 1970. The figure was used again in 1990 – the last available. |
