History in
a Pecan Shell
A buffalo hunter
named T.J. Scott is credited with founding the town. In 1881 Scott
was a member of Jones
County's first commissioner's court. Although there's no mention
of the town's former name or a name change, the town is most likely
named to honor Spanish-American
War Hero and "The Man Who Saved San Francisco" General
Funston of Kansas.
100 Funstonians were present for the 1940 census which has since declined
to an estimated seventy-six. |
