History in
a Pecan Shell
The community has
no 19th Century history. It was established in the late 1920s as a
speculative investment by one R. C. Hopping. The origin of the name
is not available. Within a year the fledgling community had two stores,
a school, cotton gin and blacksmith.
The town’s history went unrecorded for decades, even without population
figures. By the 1960s, the school had become a storehouse although
there were “several businesses”reported.
The 2000 census reported eight residents at Hart’s Camp.
Photographer's Note:
It is difficult to describe just where it is. Maybe it is best to
locate Fieldton and Hartcamp is 4
miles southeast at the intersection of FM37, FM 168 and CR 222, at
the southern end of the confluence of FMs 37 & 168.
No road signs or cornerstone. - Barclay
