According to the THC Atlas at http://atlas.thc.state.tx.us/shell-county.htm
, "the building was remodeled in 1906 and 1931. The original section
of the courthouse is in the center. Large symmetrical wings were added
on both the east and west. The roof and large clock tower were removed."
