History in
a Pecan Shell
The town, which dates to the 1880s, was once called Banner until
1900 when the time came to apply for a post office. The source of
the name is not reported although the postmaster probably knew. John
O'Brien was the first and last postmaster - but the year of its closing
isn't known.
The town's hopes of prosperity were dashed when the railroads found
other routes.
In 1940 Neinda's population was given at 75 which decreased to only
31 for the 1990 census. The city cemetery is still maintained by an
association and a Pioneers Reunion still holds a homecoming each year.
