History in
a Pecan Shell
In 1903 Benjamin F. Quarton, opened a post office at his home.
He delivered the mail to Quarton's other residents - which numbered
five in 1915.
The post office kept it's doors open until 1918 when mail was then
routed through Dumas. And as
Dumas grew - it drained off population from Quarton.
Detailed county maps show no sign of the former town of Quarton -
not even a cemetery. The Dumas County TxDoT map does show several
roads extending off into blank space. |
