Lyric Theater
"The buildings
were built in 1879 being the oldest brick buildings in Flatonia.
In 1913 this building became the winter home to "The Happy Hour Theatre"
and during the summer months it traveled a few blocks east to the
"Airdome". In 1930 it become the permanent home of "The Lyric Theatre"
On February 23rd 1967 its last show was "Beach Blanket Bingo" after
which the lights went out on the marquee.
In 2007 a new owner took on the task of breathing life back into the
buildings, and revived the outdoor movies for a few years during the
summer months on the west wall of the Theater.
April 7th 2017 was the grand reopening of the Lyric, showing "Second
Hand Lions" as its come back feature with 35 cent tickets.
Currently the Lyric hosts movies on Friday and Saturday nights. With
special live performances from Playhouse Smithville a few times a
year.
