History in
a Pecan Shell
"Records show
that the Phillips Cemetery AKA Auto Cemetery is located on N CR 17
( 32.3969450, -101.6044780 ) and has three unknown graves. The location
is easily discernible on aerial photographs. The cemetery is 2.9 miles
southwest of Knott by road.
Auto had a post office from 1907 to 1913. Knott
had a post office from 1907 to 1929. It is curious that a post office
would be granted to two locations several miles apart in the same
year. I have noticed that 1907 seems to be a popular year for granting
post offices in this area of Texas. My conjecture is this may have
something to do with proposed railroad expansion.
