History in a Pecan Shell

Like Tomball, and Edcouch, the town was named for both the first and last names of a Brownwood man named Brooke Smith.

The year was 1902 and a man named David Smith honored his friend (or relative) by naming the town after him. The next year a post office was granted and the town had three cotton gins at one point.

In recent years the town still had their post office, a store and gas station. The Smith cemetery is shown on detailed county maps.
