History in
a Pecan Shell
This tiny town
may hold the record for locations. Five at last count. The community’s
first school conducted classes in a tent in 1888, the same year it
acquired a post office. The namesake was Rube Clayton, manager of
a local ranch.
The 1940 census counted 60 people served by three businesses. By 1980
it had declined to just 21 – the same number used for 1990. |
