History on
a Pinhead
Settler Hardy Flowers was given the honor of having the town named
after him. History is scarce, as are population figures. At one time
the town had a school which became a district. Five other schools
merged with Flower Grove in the 30s and 40s.

"The now closed consolidated school building and gym are located
4 miles west of Flower Grove on SH 137 at FM 2002.
Klondike is
in Dawson County
about 5-1/2 miles northwest of the school/gym buildings" - Barclay

"This is a picture of the front entrance to the old Flower Grove
school. It is located on FM 137 and here is a bit of some history.
A consolidation election was called on April 30 1973 and was approved
103-31 in Flower Grove and 183-32 in Klondike. What killed Flower
Grove was the formation of a high school in Grady.
The Grady school district started a high school to head off a mandatory
consolidation by the State of all school districts without a high
school. The Flower Grove school merged with Klondike and the campus
was used as an elementary campus for the district. I don't know when
it was shut down. The campus is well kept and the gym is still in
good condition minus a few broken windows." - October 15, 2013 |
