History in a Pecan Shell

Forsan had no 19th Century history. It began in 1928 when pioneer landowner Clayton Stewart donated land for the community in 1928. The name comes from the "Four (oil) Sands" that oil speculators had found. It was later determined that there were five sands - but the name was already in use.

In just two years, Forsan had become a boomtown with a 1931 population of 350. By the middle of the decade it was up to 400 and had its own post office.

Unlike most boomtowns, Forsan retained its population - even into the mid 1950s. It did finally shrink in the 1980s to 239, but it has kept its post office and businesses.

The 1990 census reported 256 residents, dropping to 226 for the year 2000.
