History on
a Pinhead
Tyro was the original
name for Novice. Settled in the 1870s
on Rough Creek, Tyro requested a post office which was granted in
1880 but only lasted a year. When the community got a second chance
for a post office in 1884, it opened under the name of Novice,
said to be a joke on the wet-behind-the ears storekeepers who hosted
the post office.
