Thank you from Montana

I just wanted to thank you on your wonderful and excellent site. I have been glued to it for a few day's now and I do believe it will take me a week or more to get through all the towns and history! It's really fabulous to find a site dedicated to your great state of Texas. The history of many of the communities is sad in some cases and in others, it can be very inspiring.

What made me really comment was seeing that beautiful old Victorian courthouse in Brazoria, Texas and what is left of it now. What a shame! It just makes me want to weep. Here in Montana and especially here in Helena, where I live, we went through a period of Urban Renewal as they liked to call it in the early 1970's. I was just a kid at that time, but I remember seeing all these beautiful old gothic Victorian buildings being torn down for no reason that I could figure and actually crying over it. I would ask my mother why they were doing this and she could barely tell me as it made her so emotional too. Now, our city regrets the decision they made back then and our once thriving downtown is completely dead. This, in a town of about 45,000 people! It's sad to go down there and remember how it was and I think that's what most people do, so they end up avoiding going down there since it's so terribly depressing now. Of course, we still have many, many historical, beautiful and one of a kind buildings and houses left, but it will never be what it used to.

In going through your site, I think it's great that you've included the photo's of what once was and in some cases still is, so that younger folks and other people can see what beauty still exists and what beauty was once there in some of these old towns. I have only visited your beautiful state once and it was a trip where we had to just pass through basically. One day I and my brother who is a historian like me, will take a trip to Texas again and use this site and the books that are available on it so we don't miss a thing! We especially love exploring old graveyards.

Thanks again for such a wonderful site and all of the effort you have put into it. History is indeed very important and I hope our school children and their teachers will all realize this and use sites like this to learn more about their country and their surroundings. You've done wonderful work here.

Sincerely,
Brian J. McIntyre
