The
men of Colorado County
shown here were the same as men from any other county in Texas
- just more so. They were fathers, grandfathers, brothers, sons, uncles
and brothers-in-law and if they may have thought they were something
special it doesn't come across in most of these photos, excepting
the ones where they're brandishing guns and/ or playing cards. The
images roughly span the years from the late 1870s through the 1950s.
These men with their arrogant, amused, belligerent, kindly, confused,
indifferent and (other)wise expressions had their counterparts all
over the country, but these had geography on their side - and that's
what makes them "The Timeless Men of Colorado
County." |

"My grandfather,
Charles Renz was a semi-professional photographer during 1907-1920
and lived in Cat
Spring and Bernardo Prairie in Austin and Colorado county. I worked
with Bill Stein
of the Nesbitt Memorial Library archives in Columbus,
TX and he helped create the Charles Renz Collection. I allowed
him to copy 128 of my grandfather's photographs which I own."
