"Sunshine
Road seems to be the first paved road to the east of Hwy 95 after
passing the Holland Cemetery. I did not clock the milage, but would
imagine it is at least 5 although not likely as much as 10 miles from
Hwy 95.
My father, Charles F. Baker, the Holland Agriculture Teacher was sometimes
pressed into service as a substitute bus driver. When this occurred,
I would ride the bus with him. I remember that he would point out
an old cemetery that was used for the Black citizens of the Sunshine
and Holland communities. I didn't locate that particular cemetery
during this trip, however he has since told me that I probably passed
that site before I reached the Sunshine Cemetery.
I didn't have paper to make notes, but the earliest legible tombstone
that I noticed seemed to be from the 1870'-80's. Some of the burials
here were the Reed's (See Reed
Family Cemetery), Ivey's and Burns families.
These photos were taken in Holland,
Texas."
