History in
a Pecan Shell
Established
in the 1880s, the naming of the town is said to come from a man blowing
dust off a paper (or perhaps even the post office application itself)
and the town voted on the suggested name.
The town was originally located at a place called Polecat Pond,
but with the arrival of the Texas Central Railroad, the town moved
two miles north. After the railroad quit service, the residents moved
back – perhaps the first time in Texas history a community went back
to its original location.
The only two population counts were from 1940 when fifty residents
lived Duster and 2000 when 25 residents were counted. |

Duster,
Texas
by David
Knape
There are those
who cussed her,
talked poorly
of Duster,
it just couldn't manage
any semblance of luster,
so she disappeared
no one since has discussed her,
except for this here
there aint' no more Duster.
