History in a Pecan Shell

Originally known as Crush, it appears as such on the 1920s map. There is no connection to the infamous "Crash at Crush" which was just S of Waco alongside present-day I-35.

Crush referred to a large industrial rock crusher located here. A brickyard was established here around 1910 and the name was changed to Thermo - the trade name of a vitrified brick. The Thermo Fire Brick Company was the community's major employer.

Thermo is still listed as a community, although it is left off of many current maps.
