Many towns
(and cities) across Texas have buildings
in a state of limbo. Preservationists want to save them, while others
want them torn down. Funds are usually unavailable so the can is simply
kicked down the road. The pro-demolition forces pray for rain, so
that nature will rot the roofs until demolition is the only alternative.
But at last comes a solution. These photos of the beloved Choate School
come from photographer Shannon Grayson who also supplies the explanation
of the event(s) pictured. With minimal expense (weather permitting),
alumni can have more than an open field to show their grandkids and
the community retains a physical piece of its architectural past.

Choate School
Ms Grayson's description:
"The "old school", now the Choate Baptist Church Fellowship Hall,
was the setting for an engagement party honoring Ashley James (granddaughter,Reagan
Rogers, a former student of the school and his wife Dorothy) and her
fiancé Keegan Gross. The church members had the ruins of the school
burned out and cleared in hopes of staging events just as this special
occasion. Decorations and theme were in keeping with the time period
of the era and created by family members headed by cousin of the bride,
Christian Grayson. Back in October of 2013 he also held a movie night
where he built an "old
Rialto" movie screen." - Shannon Grayson, July 14, 2014 |
