History in a Pecan Shell

Facts are few and far between with tiny Ben Bolt. There seems to be three.

One is the name - reportedly named for a then-popular song. L. B. Collins, the town developer had naming rights and since the song's lyrics were ""Don't you remember sweet Alice, Ben Bolt?" Collins though the proximity to (a town named) Alice was appropriate.

Fact Two: The town was laid out in 1904, but before that, Mexican herders called the site home.

Fact three: A post office under the name Ben Biolt was granted in 1906.

Fact Four: In 1914 the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway built through.

Population estimates of Ben Bolt over the years:
1914 - 50
1947 - 120
1950 - 75
1966 - 138
1990 - 110
