Monument
Hill &
Kreische Brewery State Historical Site
Three miles south of town on the bluffs overlooking the Colorado
River, you'll find Monument Hill and the ruins of the Kreische Brewery.
This unusual and under-appreciated State Historical Park (979-968-5658)
is the final resting-place for Fayette
County men involved in the Dawson/Mier
Expedition into Mexico.
In addition there's the brewery ruins and the restored Kreische
House, all made from the abundant limestone of the bluffs.
Tours available and several books in the gift shop deal with the
ill-fated foray into Mexico. more
