History in
a Pecan Shell
The town was
founded in 1880 on Middle Yegua Creek by Samuel M. Slaughter, who
was also the town's first postmaster.
Population figures for various years:
1884: seventy-five
1890: one hundred
1920: seventy-five
1949: twenty
1990: twenty
2000: twenty
Beaukiss only had two businesses in 1931 and although eastern Williamson
County had an oil boom, the town's revival was only temporary.
The Beaukiss School
closed in 1947.
The Beaukiss Cemetery is shown on maps, while the population is
dispersed.

Bridge near Beaukiss
I was looking on Google Earth and noticed that the bridge (see Gayle
Abbott submitted photo) is still there today. Is it possible
to have someone take a picture today from the same spot? I would
like to see that. - Chad Snow, July 21, 2012
My family is
from Beaukiss and surrounding area. I have some school photos and
wondered if anyone had rosters. I know who some of the people in
the photos are, but not many. Is anyone working on this that you
know about? - Thanks, Gayle Abbott, Great-granddaughter of Silas
A. Abbott, former Postmaster at Beaukiss, December 05, 2004
I was born
in 1939 and remember the Beaukiss store at about the age of 6, with
everyone playing dominoes around the wood-burning stove in the winter,
and the pickles, crackers, cheese and soda that were for sale at
the store. My family and their families were all farmers not far
from Beaukiss around Adina, Blue, Knobbs and the Yegua. The Yegua
would always flood during rainy seasons. This is the area where
all the families grew up.
In 1911 my father's Uncle Jess (aged 29) was shot over someone's
children damaging the cotton crop while going and coming from school.
I wish I could get the history of Beaukiss during the wild west
days. If [anyone] could give me history in these areas I would be
grateful. - Jack Hall, Santa Clarita, California - September 15,
2004
