History in
a Pecan Shell
The community was
once known as Dacus (not to be confused with the current town
in Grimes County).
In 1893 the town applied for a post office and since Gustav Beyer
filled out the application, he named it after himself. In 1896 Beyersville
had a population of just 15 but it grew to 100, remaining there through
the 30s until 1970.
The town's school had opened four years previously as Dacus, but they
too, adopted the new name in 1897. The post office closed in 1909
and the school merged with those in nearby Taylor
in 1950. The population figure of 75 residents has been used since
1970. |
