"This courthouse was a Public Works Administration project. It
was designed by Amarillo architects Townes & Funk who designed several

"This jail
annex was built on the northeast corner of the courthouse square in
1905. It was used until 1939 when the jail was moved to the fourth
floor of the current courthouse."

"The cornerstone
for the 1891 Childress County courthouse (laid October 4, 1890) is
on the south side of the building. It lists the architect as William
Douglas and the contractors as Lovell, Miller & Hood."

"This second
cornerstone is also from the 1891 courthouse, which burned down less
than a year after its construction and was rebuilt. Although worn,
the writing appears to read 'Burned Oct. '91. Rebuilt 1892.'"
