on a Pinhead
The town dates
from 1907 when it formed around a railroad
switch off the Santa Fe mainline. Early history is unavailable at
present, but it survived the Great Depression.
The earliest report on the town was 1945 when it was described as
having a grain elevator, a store and gas station. No population figures
are available until 1980 when the census reported 15 residents.

"Ruth Dodson McBride was visiting her sister Mary Agnes Dodson
Chochran and her family at Finney, Texas. Agnes's husband, Ray, was
section foreman for the Rock Island Railroad. Agnes left several children
when she died just after Christmas in 1927. This may have been the
section house for the railroad.
... I thank you for a very enjoyable web site. I didn't know where
Finney, Texas was until I came to your web site. So much good history
there! " - Diane Garratt, June 18, 2017 |
