History on
a Pinhead
This authentic,
well-preserved cattle car appears out of nowhere on the otherwise
monotonous drive of highway 180. Bud Matthews was a cattle shipping
point, as well as a witness to the passing of the Butterfield Overland
Stage Line - the transcontinental mail service (1858-1861) under contract
to the U.S. Postal Service prior to the competition of the railroad.
Bud Matthews appears in both the
1920s and 1940s Shackleford County map. |

Subject: Bud Matthews
I believe Bud Matthews was the husband of Sallie Reynolds Matthews.
She wrote 'INTERWOVEN, A PIONEER CHRONICLE' In the 1930's. They were
a cattle family. - Kim Garnett, Denton, TX, February 17, 2011 |
